InfoExpress Adds Wireless Support to CyberGatekeeper LAN,
Its Security Policy Enforcement Solution for Enterprise Networks
Bars Network Access to All Devices with Outdated Security Utilities
SAN FRANCISCO (RSA Conference, February 24, 2004) — InfoExpress,
Inc., today announced the addition of wireless support to CyberGatekeeper
LAN, the only policy-based access solution on the market that automatically
blocks endpoints that lack up-to-date security utilities and brings
offending systems into compliance before allowing them to access
the corporate LAN. The new wireless auditing and updating capabilities
will be released in the second quarter.
The enhancement allows network managers to enforce corporate-mandated
security configurations on both wired and wireless devices — as
well as on remote users' systems with InfoExpress' CyberGatekeeper
Remote — through a single management interface. This strategy
ensures that trojans, malware and other vulnerabilities cannot
reach the LAN through PCs, PDAs or other devices that fail to maintain
current security software.
"A single endpoint device with outdated virus definitions or an
old version of a personal firewall can wreak havoc on a corporate
network, whether it's a desktop, a notebook that plugs in
and out of the LAN or connects wirelessly, or a user that taps
in remotely. That means that checking wired or remote devices without
checking wireless users leaves the whole network at risk," said
John Girard, research vice president of Gartner, Inc. "Any
initiative to prevent non-compliant users from accessing the network
must therefore cover all devices, regardless of the access method,
to ensure complete protection."
"The flaw in today's network security schemes is that
they assume endpoint security utilities are up to date. If a user
neglects
to stay current with patches and software updates, or deliberately
disables an application, the whole security infrastructure falls
apart," said Stacey Lum, CEO of InfoExpress. "CyberGatekeeper
LAN is the first solution to solve the problem because it is the
only system capable of checking the configuration of PCs and other
devices before they are granted network access."
CyberGatekeeper LAN automatically quarantines any device with
outdated, misconfigured, unauthorized or missing security configurations,
such as anti-virus programs and personal firewalls; or with instant
message, spyware and peer-to-peer software applications not permitted
by corporate policy.
Users whose devices have been refused network access are updated
automatically or directed to a Web page with the necessary patches
and software updates. This ensures that networks remain secure
while business activities continue with virtually no interruption.
Other advantages of CyberGatekeeper LAN include:
- Strict enforcement, ensuring that users cannot circumvent
the system by altering PC configurations or disabling applications.
Other
solutions can enforce security only if the user is running
the client software and cannot detect when that software is missing.
- Ongoing compliance, because systems are checked every time
a user requests network access.
- Control over systems belonging
to business consultants, business partners and other external
users who connect to the corporate
network when they are on site, as well as over PCs and other
devices used by corporate employees.
- The ability to identify and disable unauthorized
network devices such as rogue wireless access points, proxies
or NAT devices.
The product provides central policy management
from an administrator console, is scalable to support hundreds
of thousands of concurrent
users, and permits rapid integration into an organization's
existing security infrastructure because of a vendor-neutral
architecture enabling use with any third-party personal firewall,
antivirus
program and/or VPN client.
Specifications and Pricing
CyberGatekeeper LAN consists of two software components — CyberGatekeeper
Policy Manager and CyberGatekeeper Agent client software — and
the CyberGatekeeper Server rackmount appliance. CyberGatekeeper
Policy Manager runs on Windows NT 4.0 or 2000. CyberGatekeeper
Agent is available in Windows 98/ME/NT 4.0/2000/XP, Linux,
and Web (clientless) versions. CyberGatekeeper Server comes
in two
models that support up to 10,000 and 20,000 concurrent sessions
per appliance, respectively. Prices begin at $9,995.
